Owls and Birds of Prey

Starting with a glass of English Sparkling, and a selection of Kentish Cheese and Biscuits, Simon our guide will introduce you to Elmley, our owls and the birds of prey to be spotted.

Setting off on foot, Simon will guide you to the best spots for locating our resident Little Owls, Marsh Harriers, Kestrels, Hobby’s, and if you are lucky the Long Eared Owls and Perrigin Falcons. Watch these magnificent birds hunting for their supper, using their cunning, stealth and skill.

Butterflies

Elmley as an abundance of butterflies to enjoy, and this experience will take in this abundance in addition to the diversity. In 2023 the Reserve saw the discovery of Purple Hairstreak and the rare Large Tortoisesell. Join our specialist guides in search of these magical insects, including Marbled White, Purple Hairstreaks, Small Heath, Small Copper, Gatekeeper, Small Skipper and many other butterflies.

Our Butterfly Safari is at a gentle walking pace with frequent stops. You’ll need a moderate level of fitness and be able to cope with walking on uneven ground.

Please note that we cannot guarantee any wildlife sightings on any experience, however, your guide will take you on a trail where sightings are most reliable.
Please ensure you are wearing sensible walking footwear for off-track conditions, and weather appropriate outwear (Elmley is an exposed coastal site so prepare with at least a couple of layers regardless of the forecast).
Please arrive at the location specified on your booking confirmation no later than 10 minutes before the tour is due to start.
All experiences are non-smoking or vaping events, please enjoy the fresh open air.
We encourage you to bring your own camera. Binoculars are available from our guide
You are expected to carry your own viewing equipment and clothing.
When the duration of experience is mentioned, it is an approximate measure and your experience may differ on the day.
Actual timings may vary, due to reserve conditions and wildlife. Your tour guide will contact you with any changes.
Tickets are non-refundable, unless there are extenuating circumstance, which is at the discretion of the tour guide and Elmley representatives.
Cancellation of the experience due to weather conditions is at the guide's discretion. If we judge that the tour is not possible due to very poor weather conditions the guide will contact you to go ahead to rearrange or process a refund.
Bookings can be rescheduled up to 48 hours prior to the date of tour booking, but may incur an admin fee. Please call the main office on 01795 664896 to re-arrange to a preferred date.
Please ensure you come prepared with drinking water.
Elmley reserve the right to ask any participant to leave, should their behaviour be deemed inappropriate, or unsafe. In such case, refunds will not be given.
It is your responsibility to inform us of any medical conditions in advance, that we should be aware of.
We reserve the right to cancel your tour should you arrive more than 10 minutes after the start time. In this circumstance we will not refund or reschedule. If the tour goes ahead, this time will be deducted from your tour and no partial refund will be issued.
During a vehicle experience, you must remain in the vehicle at all times, unless your guide informs you otherwise.
For all tours, you must follow all instructions given by our guides.
